‘Grand Entry’: a cultural experience that touches the soul

For more than 50 years, Valley City native Linda Whitney has perfected the 400-year-old art of making mezzotints, which requires filling tiny holes in metal with ink for printmaking. She has used her skill to honor her Native American culture and the beauty and strength of powwow dancers in a unique style that has received accolades worldwide. She has exhibited her art and won awards in nearly every U.S. state as well as Poland, Belgium, Norway, Greece, China, Russia, Northern Ireland, and many more countries.

Now, The Capital Gallery is pleased to have on display and for sale many of Whitney’s latest mezzotints in its “Grand Entry” exhibit.

Also featured are jewelry and sculptures by Nelda Schrupp of Lakota and photography by Dyana Decoteau-Dyess of Minot. All artwork honors the culture, beauty, and traditions of the artists’ ancestry, personal histories, or indigenous culture.

The “Grand Entry” exhibit runs through October. It is free of charge to the public, and all pieces on display are for sale.

Our hours are Tuesday-Friday 10 am - 4 pm and Saturday 11 am - 3 pm.
